Forensic property marking kits are being handed out to households in Bearsden, Glasgow, to tackle break-ins as part of Operation Delphinus.
East Dunbartonshire community police have been providing the SelectaDNA kits to homes in the Glasgow suburb and educating residents about crime prevention measures.
DNA kits are used to mark a household’s property with a unique code and protect it from theft. It can be used to mark property, such as tablets, mobile phones or laptops, and then the number is recorded in a secure database so the items can be easily traced back to their owner.
A similar crime prevention scheme using SelectaDNA was implemented last year in Govanhill and successfully reduced housebreakings.
Following the theft of expensive items of greenkeeping equipment at The Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Course at Kelso, all replacement items have been marked with SelectaDNA by officers from Police Scotland.
Set in the countryside of the Scottish Borders, this historic estate features a twenty bedroom luxury hotel, a championship golf course and a range of outdoor activities.
