We’re delighted to be a finalist at this year’s British Security Awards. SelectaDNA has been shortlisted in the Innovative Security Project category for our work with the Metropolitan Police who are deploying our DNA Spray to reduce moped crime as part of Operation Venice.

The introduction of the new DNA tagging spray has been successful and was a major factor in a recent decline in moped crime.

Across London, Met figures show that from February to May 2018 there was a 38.5% reduction in the number of times scooters were used to commit crime compared with October 2017 to January 2018.

In October 2018, Met figures revealed that moped crime in the London Boroughs of Camden and Islington had fallen by more than 60% compared with this time last year.

Offenders now realise that the police finally have a method of proving without doubt they were at the scene of the crimes they commit. The operation has led to numerous arrests and several convictions.

The annual BSIA Awards celebrate excellence in security, both regionally and nationally, rewarding individuals and companies who have gone above and beyond in their everyday work and commitment to the security industry.

Mike Reddington, Chief Executive of the BSIA, said: “The judging of all the exceptional entries that we received was no easy task, given the level of nominations and the incredible quality of performance and innovation on display. The finalists of 2019’s British Security Awards should be immensely proud of their achievements and we wish them the best of luck on the national stage.”

Winners will be announced on the 10th of July at an awards lunch in London, to be hosted by journalist and broadcaster Jane Moore.
