Stop Tool Theft: Join the Movement to Protect Your Tools
Tool theft is more than an inconvenience—it’s a crisis. In 2023 alone, tools worth £98 million were stolen, leaving tradespeople with significant financial losses and emotional stress. That’s why we were proud to come together with the Met Police, industry leaders, and tradespeople for a game-changing event aimed at making tools more secure, more traceable, and less attractive to thieves.
Tool-Marking Event: A Day of Action
On December 17th, 2024, we took part in the biggest mass Tool Marking event yet at Toolstation in Bow, East London, organised by Shoaib Awan. From 6am, tradespeople lined up in droves, eager to take advantage of free forensic marking kits, funded by Howden, the specialist insurance broker for tradespeople, and CT1.
What the event involved:
- Free SelectaDNA Kits: Everyone received a free SelectaDNA forensic marking kit, which would mark up to 50 tools!
- Registration Support: Our team guided everyone through the registration process to ensure marked tools could be traced back to them in the event of a theft.
- Spreading Awareness: Many big voices in the industry showed up, sharing stories, resources, and showing support for the tradespeople who are affected.
A Community Joining Forces
The success of this event wouldn’t have been possible without the continued efforts of campaigners like Shoaib Awan, The Gas Expert, who was the driving force behind the event, and the many businesses who were happy to support the cause.
Sergeant Dave Catlow of the Met Police explained:
"Tool marking gives us a fighting chance to reunite victims with their property and secure convictions for theft. We all have a role to play in fighting tool theft.”
The Fight Doesn’t End Here
The December event proved that when we work together, we can make a real difference. But there’s more to do. We’re committed to expanding this movement in 2025, with more events, resources, and support to protect tradespeople’s livelihoods.
